Dr. Pal has been elected three times as a Congress (I) candidate from Calcutta North-West Parliamentary Constituency in the 9th , 10th and 11th Lok Sabha.
Dr. Pal was appointed as the Union Minister of State for Finance in 1995 and remained in office till the 10th Lok Sabha was dissolved in May, 1996.
He has been recently appointed as Member, Tenth Finance Commission. He has also been appointed as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance in the Parliament from 1993 to 1995.
He has been recently appointed as a Member of the Financial Sector Legistative Reforms Commission by the Government of India and has been taking active participation in the deliberation of the Commission.
Dr. Debiprosad Pal was the President of the Income Tax Bar Associtation, Calcutta from 1975 to 1982.
Dr. Pal had also served as a Professor in the Post graduate Department of Commerce of the University of Calcutta and the University Law College as a Professor of Law for a considerable time.
He was an Indian Delegate and attended the 46th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, New York, U.S.A.
He has served as a Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committe for investigation in the Securities Scam.
